Vogue 1264 Ankle Pants

Well, this is the same pattern I used for the pink pants. I still like the pattern, but I do see that I have some additional fit issues to work out, especially when working with a fabric that has some stretch.

After wearing them for the afternoon, they started to bag out. ( I spared you the butt shot, because the sagging was a little embarrassing!). This fabric is a stretch cotton sateen with 3 % Lycra.  I hesitate to take them in any more, or they will be more form fitting than what I would like. What to do, what to do...

I made just one modification other than the fit. I added 2 inches to the length.  I like the little vent at the hem.

And I love the style of the pants. They have a nice clean, faced waistband with an extended tab closure and invisible side zip... a great pant for my wardrobe basics.

I would like to determine the best fabrics for these pants. What do you use? Any suggestions on something with enough stretch for comfort but not enough that they stretch out?

  1. No fabric suggestion or solution for your pants problem, but just wanted to day I love that sweater!

  2. I've never made pants so no help with fabric choice I'm afraid. Although I have been thinking about making a pair and using something slightly stretchy so this was timely! I do like that style of pants and the way you've jazzed it up with the rest of the outfit.

  3. They look great, and I love the way you have styled them. No ideas on fabric, I've had the same problem myself.

  4. Your pants look wonderful! As for the fabric... I don't know that there is any way to determine how a fabric will behave until you're actually wearing it. I've had pants that stretch out in the crotch just from hanging in the closet. The fix was sewing seam binding along the centre seam. I've had much better behaviour from wool with lycra, but that means dry cleaning.

  5. I really like your pants, especially the ankle length. I've been making quite a few pairs of pants recently and have used bamboo, cotton, wool crepe and stretch gabardine. My favorite for not getting out of shape have been the stretch gabardine, I feel like washing most of the others after I wear them just to get them back in the original shape again.

  6. Your pants looks great, as does the entire outfit. I think washing will probably help but I have had that problem, too. Feel like the pants are growing all day long.

  7. Your pants look very stylish. Maybe a stretch bengaline would work well? I find that my RTW pants made out of this fabric are very comfortable but don't stretch out.

  9. Lynne, I do like your pants (and your sweater is fantastic!!), and have been wanting to try this pattern. As for the fabric stretching, I have no suggestions, but would love to hear if anyone else comes up with a solution! I have two pairs of custom stretch cotton pants that I take in on a regular basis, hoping that will solve the problem!

  10. Such great basic pants! I love the little ankle vents. I wish I could help with the bagging out issue.

  11. Making pants is always a surprise...you don't know how much they will stretch until its too late! I have developed a system with the last 2 pairs I have made and it works...before I put the waistband on I wear the pants around the house for a while, sitting, squatting etc and I can gauge how much they will stretch and then its not too late to do the alterations.
Just don't answer the door dressed in 1/2 finished pants or go out in the garden where the neighbours can see you because they won't understand!
