classic wrap gone wild

Anne, at Pretty Grievances  is one of my favorite bloggers. She is crazy funny, has a goofball attitude about fashion, and she loves to sew. Perfect. One of my favorite features is her Wednesday runway post. Just reading her commentary and the comments on her commentary is something I look forward to every week. Not to mention the fact that she is also Disney obsessed, the way I am.

This month, Anne hosted  Jungle January (go see the awesome Flickr group photos)... to satisfy her love of animal prints? I was ALL on board with that little challenge. I figured I could come up with something from my stash.
And I give you....

Now, I wanted to stick to a classic style (with that crazy blue leopard print? No other option.) so I selected  a version of  the Diane von Furstenburg wrap dress.

What did I do?
I had to keep the collar...LOVE it...gives the neckline just a bit of dimension on an otherwise very blue, very cheetah print.

I made my belt just a tie belt.  And eliminated the cuffs and tabs....too fussy for me.
I also did away with  the pocket fronts.

So, it's pretty much stripped down to the bare bones classic style. While it's not a true wrap dress,  it's an easy fit and perfect for layering.
(just look at that wild animal in the background!)


In fact, I think I will be much more comfortable with a jacket or sweater over it. Especially for work.


So, let's see so far this year...I did Chanel, I did Diane von Furstenberg....what could be next in the way of classic designer-inspired?

    You were right to pare down the details on such a busy print. I love it with the cardigan too.
    (I'm sure JR loves you for that cameo)
    I actually cut out fabric for a skirt today. However, no sewing as I wasn't driving 40 minutes in a near blizzard for a zipper.

    Wow, what a fantastic dress,Lynne. Once again you look fabulous and you have styled it perfectly. Really love the yellow cardigan with it. Great picture of JR, too funny! Thanks for the new blog site, too, how have I missed that one.

    What a cute dress. I especially like it with the asymetric cardi styling. Judging from JR's body language, he had to be watching football!

    Love this! It's amazing! You did a fabulous job and totally rock it. It's especially nice with the yellow cardi and belt.

    That's a lovely dress, with or without the sweater. The wild animal in the background looks like most guys do on a Sunday-with his head in the TV watching--football?

    Love the title of your post - it's perfect, kind of like your dress:) I love the way you've used such a bold print it's a really great pairing with the wrap dress.

    Wow! I love this dress! How amazing to be able to make something that looks like it's from the DVF collection. It looks so great with the booties and the bright yellow cardi. Love the way you wrapped andbelted it.

    Leaping leopards wouldn't look as good as you do in this dress! I also really like it paired with the yellow cardi....and those shoes! Purrrrrrr. Having just discovered that I CAN wear wrap style dresses, I am, of course now noticing them left, right and centre...yours stands out

    Looks great! You make me wish I could sew for myself but I'm never very successful with that endeavor! So much easier to sew for my granddaughters!
