Ten on Tuesday on Wednesday...Cookies

Ten Best Christmas Cookies

You know that when it comes to Christmas Cookies, just like with Thanksgiving Dinner, you don't mess with tradition. There are those recipes that get made year after year and if you don't make the sugar cookies, your husband can pretty much have the option of disowning you.

Every few years, we try something new and it sticks. In addition to the holiday faves, and over thirty plus years of cookie baking, this is my go to list:

1. Gold Medal Sugar Cookies
2. Chocolate Crackle Cookies

3. Ina Garten's Jam Thumbprints
4. Ina Garten's Pecan Squares
(note: several years ago, before Ina was on television, I bought one of her cookbooks. Then I bought the next one. And the next.)

5. Molasses Crinkles  (these are the ones that Santa really likes with a glass of milk)
6. Those little peanut butter cookies made in mini muffin pans with a mini peanut butter cup in the middle of them....which you must eat as soon as the pb cups are put in place and are melted just right...while still warm.
7. Oatmeal Cranberry White Chocolate Chunk Cookies.
8. Raspberry shortbread bars with white chocolate chips that Meghan makes.
9.. My mother's Cucidati, which are the best I've ever eaten...and she's not even Italian!

10. Jingles with coffee

  2. Yum!
Here in England they don't do Xmas cookies, just mince pies. I still make a few cookies because I miss them. I also miss the cookie exchanges, etc.

  3. I love the week before Christmas when I get to bake cookies with abandon for the Christmas holiday. This year I'm making butter cookies for nursery and school teachers...I did a few last year and they were really well received. As for the rest...I still haven't chosen my recipes.

  4. Any chance you we could get a list of your favorite cookbooks and/or recipes? I've tried lots of the recipes you've suggested over the years and loved them all!

  6. Molasses Crinkles, Snickerdoodles and Russian Teacakes (a.k.a. Mexican Wedding Cakes) have always been on our Christmas cookie list. My mother had a first edition Betty Crocker cookbook. The cookie section was well thumbed and full of spatters and smudges. We never had much luck with sugar cookies. The weather here is a bit warm for thin rolled cookies.

  7. The twins and I are baking cookies on Sunday, I love to do that. This year I think their boyfriends will be helping, more the merrier.

Gave you an award on my blog. You already have it but I needed to give it again to my best sewing buddy!

  8. Great list! I'll have to try a few new ones this year. My husband's favorites are the peanut butter blossoms with Hershey's kisses in the middle and black bottom cups. Isn't Christmas baking fun?

  10. Interesting to read another family's cookie list. Everyone has their favourites. In our house it's not Christmas if there are no almond diamond bars or spritz cookies.
